Omron Advanced Automation Lab Project
Opus College of Engineering
Marquette University

November 2023
As a part of my major in supply chain at Marquette University, I was asked to program a robot to autonomously assemble a LEGO tree. This semester-long project was through the Manufacturing, Planning, and Control (OSCM 4010) class in partnership with the Opus College of Engineering in the Omron Advanced Automation Lab. The goal was to create an optimized assembly process that minimized errors while simulating real-world automation.
My role involved assisting in lead-through programming for our robot. This meant attempting to control the robotic movements and refining the process for efficiency. The biggest challenge was ensuring each LEGO piece was placed accurately through continuous testing.
By the end of our time in the Omron Advanced Automation Lab our robot successfully assembled the LEGO tree. The main takeaways from this experience was the importance of precision when it comes to working with robots. This project strengthened my problem-solving skills and tested my patience (although leaving me feeling very proud after we accomplished the goal).
